Our geographical location is Latitude 51° 27' 14.6" N, Longitude 0° 58' 53.3" W. Click here to locate us on Google Maps. We are located 3013 miles from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, which faces exactly 118.00° from our geographical location.

The BAGR aims to provide services in:

  • Islamic and mother tongue education
  • Youth sporting events
  • Gathering information and act as an "umbrella" for the Bangladeshi community
  • Working with the local (and national) government

The BAGR is the only ethnic group to be funded by the Southern Regional Board (SRB). The project is designed to offer support to the local Bangladeshi businesses as well as distributing information to the older generation of the community. Today, it is still funded by Reading Borough Council thanks a strong partnership enjoyed since the inauguration of the Association in 1996.

The BAGR runs a cultural and community centre for Bengali mother tongue and Islamic education as well as a library at its site on Waylen Street. It celebrates important dates in Bangladeshi history, such as Independence Day and Ekushe February (Bangla Language movement of 21 February 1952), which is also now universally recognised as International Mother Language Day.

In the next few years, the BAGR hopes to expand its office, incorporate conference rooms while providing a better education, a larger prayer hall for the mosque, and many more facilities to continue serving the best interests of the Bangladeshi and local community in Greater Reading.
